Top Story Highlights from 2011 EnviroPharm Conference:
Once again the annual EnviroPharm Conference attendees were treated to a variety of knowledgeable speakers, and to spend some valuable time with them discussing issues one-on-one throughout the day. Below is a sampling of some of what the participants heard on November 17 at the Glen Erin Inn in Mississauga.

Bruce Westaway, Director of Recycling Programs, Cascades Recovery Inc. described the uniqueness of the Cascades program like this:”Cascades Recovery Inc. uses their recovery systems to collect discarded materials and to process them for use in new products. Cascades Recovery Inc. actually compensates companies for being able to take away their reusable waste. Their waste products become the raw resources for manufacturing.
Ellen McGregor, President & CEO, Fielding Chemical Technologies said “We see a world where people benefit from all the good that comes from chemicals without negative impact to air, land or water. Committed to sustainability. Fielding provides Cradle to Cradle® Care of Chemicals.
Scott Hurren, Commercial Manager, Sims Recycling stated – “In 2003 the number of computers that became obsolete exceeded new sales by 10 million units.” As of 2010 50-80% of all e-scrap generated in North America is shipped to developing countries, while the remainder is landfilled. Although many recycling companies gather waste NOT all process it. Therefore, says Hurren, it’s essential to be diligent about knowing your recycling partner.. Sims Recycling is the only RCMP approved program for the destruction of e-waste.
